TVXQ’s first Japanese single in 2009 dominated the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart, setting a new record as the first foreign artist to have five consecutive singles hit #1. The single released on January 21, and includes three songs: “Bolero,” the main theme song for the Japanese movie “Subaru,” “Kiss The Baby Sky,” written by member Micky Yoochun, and “Wasurenaide” (Don’t Forget), written by member Hero Jaejoong.
Meanwhile, TVXQ’s third Asian tour kicks off on February 20 and will last for three days.

For the first time, KBS “Boys Over Flowers” has brought down MBC “East of Eden” to win the top ratings spot.
According to TNS Media Korea, January 26’s broadcasting showed “Boys Over Flowers” ahead of “East of Eden,” 19.5% to 17.5%. (It can be noted that on this day, ratings were lower than usual due to the Lunar New Year celebration.)
“Boys Over Flowers” started on January 5, with the following ratings so far: 1st episode 14.3%, 2nd episode 17.6%, 3rd episode 20.8%, 4th episode 21.4%, 5th and 6th episodes 24.8%, 7th episode 24.8%.

After DaeSung’s “Look At Me, GwiSun” comes a new trot song “It’s a Big Win,” which will be online on January 29.
Last year, DaeSung introduced “Look At Me, GwiSun” (composed by fellow Big Bang member G-Dragon) to attract the older generation and also younger generation. “It’s a Big Win,” means to feel some kind of hope even in this economic crisis of 2009.
The music video will be directed by Cha Eun Taek, who also did Big Bang’s “Lies” and “Day by Day,” as well as BoA’s “Eat You Up.”

F4 member Kim Hyun Joong was involved in a car accident while headed to a filming location.
While heading to the Shinchon filming location in Seoul on January 21st at 5:30PM, the van Kim Hyun Joong was riding in collided with another vehicle at the Gwanghwamun intersection.
The right side of the vehicle occupied by Kim Hyun Joong sustained some damage but luckily he was seated in a different location and didn’t sustain any traumatic injuries. He merely seemed startled by the sudden accident but a judgment will be made as they reach a hospital in the vicinity.
After receiving a thorough examination at the hospital they will decide whether or not they will continue with filming said Kim Hyun Joong’s side. If there is any serious injury then filming today will be difficult.
In the meantime, Kim Hyun Joong is currently acting as F4 member Yoon Ji Hoo and in the middle of a love triangle alongside Koo Hye Sun & Lee Min Ho in KBS ‘Boys Over Flowers.’

Hyun Joong Oppa….. @_@ They said that he was able to participate in the filming later on that night, I’m so happy to hear that he’s not hurt…… I was so scared when I heard about it this morning, it brought back so many distressing memories of Kyuhyun’s/Heechul’s car accident ;;_;; I’m just really relieved and glad to hear that it’s nothing major and he wasn’t hurt, thank god….

BoA, DBSK, etc will not be appearing on KBS Music Bank indefinitely after SM Entertainment were served with a notice from KBS this month. This apparently was because of DBSK no-show at KBS Gayo Daechuk last year.
DBSK was in Japan for the final 2 days of 2008 as they had to attend the TBS Japan Record Awards and the 59th Kohaku Uta Gassen 2008 respectively and thus couldn’t attend KBS and MBC gayo festivals. But in the process, there was a breakdown in communications between SM Entertainment and KBS resulting in Shinee, Super Junior, etc missing KBS Gayo Daechuk as well.
Competition was fierce to get singers to appear at the year-end gayo festivals for the 3 respective major broadcasters, SBS, KBS and MBC. KBS was probably incensed to see BoA and DBSK appearing at Festival S (SBS gayo festival) but not appearing at theirs. As a form of punishment, KBS has thus decided to prohibit SM artistes from appearing on Music Bank indefinitely.
The worst hit SM artistes at the moment must be So Nyeo Shi Dae who made their comeback recently with their Gee mini-album. They were originally scheduled to make a grand comeback on Music Bank on 9th January. But it was shelved at the very last moment on 8th January and the girls had to make their comeback a day later instead on Music Core. The girls are already handicapped by SM Entertainment problems with Mnet (rumors put it that it was because of DBSK failing to win major awards at MKMF) resulting in the no-shows on M! Countdown, leaving them with only Music Core and Inkigayo.
The ban was initially dismissed by SM Entertainment who said that the girls wanted more time to prepare and so their Music Bank comeback was delayed to 16th January. But it was strange that they would say that since it was only a day later before they would appear on Music Core. But fans didn’t make too much fuss over it since Shinee was on the 9th January episode of Music Bank. But after seeing Shinee and So Nyeo Shi Dae missing from the 16th January Music Bank lineup, the ban looks like it’s being enforced by KBS.
In an interview with a Music Bank PD, “Currently, SM Entertainment artistes are only barred from appearing on KBS Music Bank. It will not affect their appearances on other shows on the KBS network. The ban is indefinite.”
There were also talks that Tae Yeon of So Nyeo Shi Dae was actually considered by KBS to take over from the outgoing Seo In Young as the MC of Music Bank. But the ban effectively puts an end to that and announcer Park Eun Young will take over Seo In Young instead from today’s episode onwards.

This is rather sad to hear about, and puts both SM and KBS at a disadvantage in my opinion. Music Bank will be losing many fans and show-goers since SM holds so many fan clubs and fans themselves from SHINee/SJ/DBSK, etc. I am also sad that SJ will not be able to promote their third album when it’s released later on this year on Music Bank, but I’m sure ELFs will make sure that’s not a problem ^^ Hopefully SM/KBS can see their way past the disagreement and come up with a compromise soon 🙂

Idol group members from DBSK-Big Bang-Super Junior-SHINee Dance Battle on SBS Gayo Daejun.
The idols’ will be performing their own style of dance and make it a combined stage /collaberation stage on the coming 29th, from PM 9:55, on SBS Gayo Daejun.
On the day, Big Bang’s Seungri, DBSK’s U-know Yunho, Super Junior’s Eunhyuk, SHINee’s Taemin will be competing each other under the theme of dance battle.
Following that, Super Junior’s Shindong-Sungmin, Big Bang’s Seungri, 2AM’s Jo Kwon, SHINee’s Taemin will form Wonder Boys and has a surprise event under their sleeves.
They (Wonder Boys) received attention as they performed SNSD’s “Girls’ Generation” last September on SBS Ingigayo.
As well as that DBSK’s Xiah Junsu and Big Bang’s Taeyang will participate in a piano battle.
Other artists like Rain, Kim Jongkook, FTIsland, Jewellery, SNSD will be participating in the SBS Gayo Daejun which is hosted by Lee Hyoree + Lee Chunhee + Park Yejin.

2 of Kpop’s biggest names Big Bang and Dong Bang Shin Ki will have their first ever joint stage!
They will be performing together for SBS year-end concert ‘2008 SBS Gayo Festival’ set to take place on 29th December.
One of the staff for the concert announced on 24th December, “The 2 groups are preparing for a performance called ‘Star Wars’.”
It is also confirmed that Big Bang TaeYang and Dong Bang Shin Ki Xiah JunSu will also be having a showdown of musical composition.
“After the piano performance session, they will also have a song battle. Xiah JunSu is scheduled to perform first, followed by TaeYang.”

On the 23rd, Big Bang’s management company YG Entertainment announced that “Big Bang will continue its promotional activities for ‘Sunset Glow’ until the end of the year, at which point Seungri will begin his solo activities with ‘Strong Baby’ from the group’s second album,” adding that “through his solo activities, fans will be able to see a more provocative and mature Seungri that they’ve seen before, and not just Big Bang’s maknae.”
‘Strong Baby’ is a new pop-style dance song written by G-Dragon in collaboration with Bae Jillyeol, the composer of Bi’s ‘Rainism,’ and is Seungri’s first solo song in more than two years, following ‘The Next Day’ from Big Bang’s third single album, released in 2006.
As soon as his solo schedule was decided on in November, Seungri began preparing, creating the choreography for the song himself and working to sculpt his body through training and managed eating. Recently, he finished recording the music video along with G-Dragon.
YG says, “Seungri’s solo activities will follow upon G-Dragon’s producing, Taeyang’s solo album, Daesung’s trot single and TOP’s collaborations with Gumi and Uhm Jung Hwa in showing the musical abilities of the each individual member of the group,” adding that fans “can expect a particular level of preparedness from Seungri.”
Seungri’s first solo performance is scheduled to occur on SBS’s ‘Gayo Daejeon’ on the 29th.

SHINee’s Jong Hyun will have his first solo stage debut.
On December 12 on KBS 2TV’s “Music Bank,” Jong Hyun will have his solo performance. This will be the first solo stage of his since SHINee debuted in April of this year.
Jong Hyun will be singing a remake of Alejandro Sanz’s “Y Si Fuera Ella,” which is from SHINee’s first album. The exotic atmosphere and Jong Hyun’s dynamic expression will make this a beautiful song.
In a phone call that Newsen had with an SM Entertainment agent on December 11, “Jong Hyun has been practicing for his first solo performance. This is his chance to prove his talented ability as a solo singer.”
SHINee won the Best Rookie Award at the Golden Disc Awards held on the 10th. Last month, they won the Rookie Award at MKMF.
